Peaches are good for you in many ways. High in fiber, they improve digestion. They also promote healthy skin. Studies show that peaches are associated with reduced high blood pressure, cancer prevention, and reduced risk of heart disease.

Peaches are rich in antioxidants that protect your skin cells against the aging effects of exposure to the sun’s ultraviolet rays. These antioxidants help keep skin elastic and can prevent rough, dry
skin. Researchers at Texas A&M University have also discovered that specific kinds of phytochemicals, including cancer-fighting antioxidants, are found naturally in peaches.


Kinds of Peaches

You’ve probably heard of "cling peaches", which are perfect for canning. Cling is short for "clingstone", a peach that holds on to, or clings, to the pit. Clingstones generally have firm flesh. Then there’s "freestone", where the peach separates easily from the pit. A third kind, "semi-freestone", is a combination of freestone and clingstone.
