While many people have joined the low-carb bandwagon to try to improve their health and achieve their ideal weight, one of the oldest and surest ways to better your overall health and
maintain your ideal weight is exercise. And one of the easiest and most inexpensive ways to get the exercise you need is running. While there’s more to healthful running than just donning your tennis shoes and bolting out your front door, it‘s almost that simple to implement. It’s important to prepare your body to run and to use the right equipment to help prevent unnecessary injury. Knowing where, when, and how often to run can also be considerations that make the difference in a successful running program.

Running, or jogging, has many health benefits. Chief among them is cardiovascular fitness. Regular aerobic exercise of any kind strengthens the heart muscle as it requires the heart to work harder. As a result, the resting heart rate is reduced, more oxygen is transported with less effort, additional coronary blood vessels may develop, and the risk of atherosclerosis is reduced. In addition, jogging may tip the cholesterol balance in favor of the protective HDLs, effectively lowering the more harmful LDLs.
