FREERIDE: Freeriding is the most popular style of snowboarding. Designed for all-mountain riding, these boards are perfect for speed and everything from jumps to carving to powder. Like freestyle, freeride equipment uses a soft boot. The boards
have a directional shape and while they can be ridden fakie (backward), they’re designed to go forward. If you don’t know what kind of riding you’ll be doing, this is your category.


Snowboard Boots & Bindings: Step-in, Strap-on and Hybrids

Once you’ve decided on the type of board you’ll be riding, you can decide on the boot/binding combination. The most common is soft boots with strap-on bindings, but many riders like the convenience of hard boots with step-in bindings (they work just like skis). The most important thing to remember when buying equipment is to buy your boots first, then find a binding that fits the boots. Snowboard bindings come in three sizes (S, M, L) but have different shapes to the heel cup and base plate that affect how well your boots fit in them. For this reason you’ll need to take your boots with you when shopping for bindings to get a snug fit.
