Taking Tennis Lessons – the smartest way to learn tennis

There’s no need to struggle to learn tennis on your own. Help, in the form of professional tennis instruction (tennis pros certified by organizations such as the United States Tennis Association or the Professional Tennis Registry), is available in most major communities.

Check your neighborhood newsletter, community bulletin boards or look on www.usta.com or www.ptrtennis.org, to find a tennis pro – like Dan McNiel, a pro who runs several community tennis programs in and around Ashburn, Virginia.

“Depending on the individual, group lessons are usually a cheaper way to get started,” McNeil says, offering advice to people who want to learn the game. “Group classes will usually have four to eight people per professional and they’re a good way to learn the fundamentals and meet other people who also play.”

Many tennis pros also offer private instruction.
